Ergonomic Chair FAQs

Many of our chairs have pronounced and adjustable lumbar support. If you have back pain ensure you have an adjustable chair that fits well to ensure the lumbar support is sitting comfortably in the small of your back. We would recommend looking at the Sitfit range of chairs as they have different sized seats and backs and a ratchet back to allow the back to be adjusted to fit snugly. The ergopod with adjustable lumbar pump is also a good option. Ensure that your seat is not too long and that you are sitting with your back in contact with the back of the chair. Use the forward tilt function if needed to ensure you don't slump.

Whilst we do not offer ergonomic assessments for workplaces, our sales team can certainly help with recommendations on products that will help with your ergonomic set up. We do work very closely with a number of rehabilitation consultants so please get in touch if you need help arranging an assessment at your workplace.

Absolutely - all of our ranges are suitable for both commercial workspaces and home office set ups. Designed with comfort, support and aesthetics and design in mind and available in a range of finishes and upholstery to suit your home decor. If you need help with this our friendly team will be delighted to make some recommendations for you.

Most of our task seating has a 10 year warranty. Please refer to individual product pages to check the particular chair in question. If you are unsure please don't hesitate to reach out to our sales team via live chat, email or phone

1. Seat Height

General rule: Your feet should rest flat on the floor with your knees at about a 90° angle.

Guideline by height:

  • Under 160 cm (5'3") → Look for a chair with a minimum seat height of 38–40 cm. Consider a footrest if even the lowest setting is too high.
  • 160–180 cm (5'3"–5'11") Standard office chairs (seat height 42–52 cm) usually fit well.
  • Over 180 cm (6’0”) → Choose a chair with an extended gas lift, adjustable up to 55–58 cm.

2. Seat Depth (front to back)

Correct fit: There should be 2–3 fingers’ width (about 5 cm) between the back of your knees and the chair seat.

Petite users: Look for short seat depth like the Sitfit Petite

Tall users: Choose chairs with deeper seats (48–50 cm depth) or seat slides.

3. Backrest Height & Lumbar Support

Smaller frames: A backrest with lower lumbar curve adjustment is essential so it aligns with your spine. The Sitfit medium back and Inca medium back work well.

Taller frames: Look for a taller backrest or one with height-adjustable lumbar support.

All of our ergonomic task chairs are designed for long periods of time seated. That being said our 24/7 control room chair range are particularly aimed at comfort and support for an entire shift. Always remember when you are at your desk for long periods of time it is important to take regular breaks to stand, walk around and stretch.

Our Trial a Chair program is available for businesses. Depending on your location, our sales team may also be able to bring a chair to you as part of our mobile showroom service. Please contact sales@sitbackandrelax.com.au for more details.

Why Ergonomic Chairs Matter

If you're spending hours at your desk each day, your chair isn't just furniture—it's essential equipment for your health and productivity. Ergonomic chairs are specifically designed to support your body's natural alignment, making long periods of sitting more comfortable and significantly healthier.

Unlike standard office chairs, ergonomic designs adapt to your body with adjustable features including seat height, armrest positioning, lumbar support, and backrest angle. This customisation reduces discomfort, prevents strain, and helps you maintain proper posture throughout the workday.

The Real Health Benefits

Back Pain Relief: Quality lumbar support maintains your spine's natural curve, taking pressure off your lower back—a common problem area for desk workers.

Better Posture: When your chair supports proper alignment, you're less likely to slouch or lean forward, reducing neck and shoulder tension.

Improved Circulation: Adjustable seat depth and proper cushioning promote healthy blood flow to your legs, preventing that uncomfortable numbness during long work sessions.

Increased Productivity: When you're comfortable and pain-free, you can focus on your work instead of constantly shifting to find a better position.

Long-Term Wellness: Regular use of an ergonomic chair can help prevent musculoskeletal disorders that develop from years of poor sitting posture.

Choosing Your Ergonomic Chair

Task Chairs are practical options for everyday office work, featuring swivel bases and multiple adjustment points.

Executive Chairs offer premium comfort with high-quality materials and additional padding—ideal if you're at your desk for extended periods.

Mesh Chairs provide excellent breathability while maintaining strong lumbar support, perfect for Australian climates.

What to Look For

When selecting an ergonomic chair, prioritise adjustability. You should be able to modify seat height, backrest angle, armrest position, and ideally seat depth. Check the weight capacity suits your needs, and if you move around your workspace frequently, ensure it has smooth-rolling castors.

Consider this an investment in your health and productivity. While ergonomic chairs span various price points, choosing quality means choosing comfort and support for years to come.

Your Body Will Thank You

Whether you're working from a corporate office, home workspace, or anywhere in between, the right ergonomic chair makes a measurable difference to how you feel at the end of each day—and over the long term.
